Definition of a sanyasa dharma by Mahaswami

Sage of Kanchi

Thanks to Shri Ratnam for the article…

Periyava once visited Madurai. He was staying in a school in the North Masi Street. It was raining heavily, and the rains lasted for three days! ThamizhVeL P.T. Rajan, who was a resident of Madurai, had the desire to take MahaPeriyava to the Meenakshi Amman temple. He brought the car he had purchased recently and parked it in front of the building where Periyava was staying. “It is raining heavily. If you get inside the car you may go and alight near the temple. I have great happiness to take you (in the car).” P.T. Rajan told the sage politely.

Periyava asked him, “A new car?”

“Yes, but no other person has sat inside; only you should sit first!”

Periyava smiled at these words…

Then he called his disciple who stood nearby and said, “Go and have a look at the path that…

Ashamed to call myself a monk!

Sage of Kanchi

HH Dalai Lama in his own words:

“I sought an audience with the Sankaracharya and met him at Kanchi. I saw and heard undiluted truth ringing in the voice of His Holiness – a voice of great wisdom, conviction, constantly smiling and in peace within himself. The first that stuck me on arrival was his extreme simplicity, austerity and true renunciation. For a moment I almost felt ashamed that I too call myself a monk – a Buddhist monk. The Sankaracharya created that reflection in my mind and I felt, “Here is a holy person and we can work together for the betterment of mankind’. I thoroughly enjoyed the spiritual experience”.

Words coming out of his heart – words coming out of a divine experience…..

Once Swami Chinmayananda came with Shri Gemini Sri Ramamurthy mama to have darshan of Periyava & did namaskaram.

Periyava asked him “A sanyasi shouldn’t…

Thanks to Karthi Nagarathnam for posting one of the finest paragraphs on what Periyava had said about doing “seva”…..Highly encouraging for all of us here who are part and parcel of running this blog…At times, I think “What a big difference this blog is going to make?” As Periyava said here, whether or not this blog makes a difference in you, this makes a big difference in me! When I post something, I read, understand and feel for the content. That is the biggest gain for me!!!! It is so touching that Periyava remembered Rs 1 and 5 contribution all the time!!

Let us all get involved in doing seva – no matter how small it is. As long it is bagavat seva, nothing else matters.

Thanks to BN Mama for the translation…..

Maitreem Bhajatha – an interesting background behind this

Sage of Kanchi

Isn’t it interesting to know that there were people who showed their hatred to Mahaswamy Himself even in those days? How Periyava did a self-analysis of those criticisms and found out how He could have handled differently! See mahan’s compassion towards them as well…..

MahaPeriava _sketch_BN

AUTHOR : Ra .Ganapathy
Publishers : Divya Vidhya Publishing House.

This episode highlights how The two great qualities of HUMILITY (VINAYAM) and WISDOM (GNANAM) co-existed in Mahaperiava.

Ra.Ganapathy (anna) writes:

Proof that a person is always immersed in LOVE ( MAITHREEM) is when that person treats even his worst adversary with love. I experienced one such demonstration , with SriSaranar.

For some people, the song “Maithreem Bhajatha”, fueled their hatred towards Mahaperiava and the hatred burnt with fury. I didn’t know, initially ,that such people existed, and that the song drew such a hateful response from them.

I felt that all were very happy…

Earth Charter

Soul Gatherings

We have forgotten who we are,
we have lost our sense of wonder and connectedness,
we have degraded the earth and our fellow creatures,
and we have nowhere else to go.

If we lose the sweetness of the waters,
we lose the life of the land;
if we lose the life of the land,
we lose the majesty of the forest;
if we lose the majesty of the forest,
we lose the purity of the air;
if we lose the purity of the air,
we lose the creatures of the earth,

not just for ourselves,
but for our children,
both now and in the future.

Soul Gatherings

kindness V

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet
as if they were going to be dead by midnight.
Extend to them all the care, kindness
and understanding you can muster,
and do with no thought of any reward.
Your life will never be the same again.

The sage does not accumulate for himself.
The more he gives to others,
the more he possesses of his own.
The way of Heaven is to benefit others
and not to injure.
